Charlestown Redevelopment
Charlestown Square is wholly owned by GPT RE limited. The centre is located in Charlestown, South of Newcastle, adjacent to the Pacific Highway.
The centre was built in 1978. The current redevelopment is the Stage 4 redevelopment and consists of the extension of the centre to the south requiring realignment of the adjacent Frederick Street and extension of Carl Street, and purchase of land from Council.
The following works are also required:
New Charlestown Bowling, replacing the existing to be demolished
New playing field at St Johns Oval
New Childcare Centre, replacing the existing to be demolished
Creation of a new park on Charlestown Oval
Upgrade existing intersection Pacific Hwy and Carl Street
The civil works involve the DA and CC design of the Charlestown Square perimeter road network, including drainage and utility coordination. The works also include earthworks and sedimentation and erosion control for the retail extension.

General Property Trust, owners of Charlestown Square are expanding, and with the old club in the way were given the opportunity to relocate to a new 23 million dollar facility.
CBC has two grass greens, a synthetic green, loading dock and undercover parking which accommodates 180 cars.

St Johns Oval has been redeveloped to a first class football park with training field, amenities block, grandstand and 160 parking spaces. The field has been upgraded to be sustainable with 50,000L irrigation tanks and On Site Detention. The fields have been remediated with 500mm of VENM capping layer and a balance cut fill of 60,000 cu.m.

Kahibah Childcare Centre is an amazing facility build on a steep block which required innovative design to achieve accessability in accordance with Australian Standards.
The Centre has 15 parking spaces, above ground and below ground OSD and a number of in-obtrusive retaining walls.

Charlestown Oval will for the centre piece of the Charlestown Square redevelopment with a first class combined soccer field, cricket pitch and special event venue.
The design incorporates new amenities, performance stage, retaining walls and 5m high ball screens/advertising along the Pacific Highway.

The intersection of Pacific Highway and Carl Street is an RTA road with an anual average daily traffic of 35,000 vehicles.
It is intended to widen the intersection to accomodate the additional traffic projections based on the increase in retail area.
